The Philosophy of SABR

صبر

SABR is not clothing with a word on it. The word came first.

Where it comes from

This did not begin as an idea. It began at the bottom of the ocean.

Anger. Sadness. Frustration. Feeling lost. For a long time it felt like being at the deepest depths, struggling to find the way back to the surface. What came out of that was not a business plan — it was eight things that had to be true, or none of the rest was worth making.

I

Patience

صبر

When the tea is boiled, let it breathe.

My mother said it while watching me make tea. I laughed and agreed, and then thought about it for weeks, because it was the most useful thing anyone had ever told me.

When tea has boiled and hit a hundred degrees it is at its warmest and its most violent. Reach for it then and you get hurt, and the taste is wrong anyway. All I had to do was set it aside and let it stop bubbling. Then I could drink it.

When you are intensely angry, sad or frustrated, this is the moment you are boiling — and if you touch the teapot you will get hurt.

Pain

ألم

The pain was not the obstacle. It was the material.

SABR was born during one of the worst periods of my life, and that is probably why it means what it does. A brand built in a good year would not have anything to say to someone in a bad one.

When you throw a ball into the air, nothing about the way up tells you anything. The meaning is in the landing.

But that pain gave me something. It gave me a vision.

Identity

أصالة

I found out at twenty-two that I had been living with severe ADHD my whole life.

For twenty-two years there was no name for it. Then there was, and I started looking at everything again — the workplace, my own house, my friends. I saw impatience everywhere, including in the mirror.

I am feeling life intensely. But thank God, alhamdulillah, I have everything I need and I am grateful for this gift.

IV

Purpose

غاية

I did not want anyone else to go through what I went through alone.

Sometimes the people closest to us cause the deepest damage. And sometimes a stranger on the street shows a kindness that the people closest to us never could. Once you have seen that, you cannot un-see it.

I wanted to bring change. I wanted to become a positive figure in the world.

Family

عائلة

I made this for my family before I made it for myself.

Impulsive, doing whatever my mind said and regretting it right after — and doing it to the people who had no choice but to stay. So this is a way of giving back.

For all the times I have been ungrateful. For all the times I have made life harder for the people closest to me.

VI

Discipline

انضباط

Next time someone tries to boil me up, I will not drink from the teapot.

Discipline here is not waking at five or tracking habits. It is the four seconds between the thought and the hand — the gap where everything is either kept or lost.

Indeed, with hardship comes ease. With every negative thing in your life there is always an opposite good in it, if you look for it.

VII

Unity

كرم

From above, we look like ants. That is not an insult — it is the relief.

Stand somewhere high and look down. Is the person down there, the size of an ant, going to care about your thoughts, your feelings, your dream in life?

And yet we are only strong together. Ten percent of every sale goes to people in need — given by me and my family — because a philosophy that costs nothing is only an opinion.

I am bringing unity back, so that you feel like home. Everyone with me, as one.

Becoming

صيرورة

Look at the mountain from the beach. It is far, and you can still see it.

Doubt, fear, greed, impatience, ungratefulness — that is what stops us, not the distance. While you are on the road, the road behind you is invisible.

Then one day you look down, and you see how far you have come. That is the whole thing. Not the summit — the looking down.

I was never a patient or grateful person. I learned to become that way.

Revend, in his own words

Every piece of clothing I make is a reminder that whatever you are going through, you are not alone.
